As our long-standing Financial Controller approaches a well-earned retirement, we are seeking an experienced Construction Controller to step in and lead our financial accounting operations. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on financial leader thoroughly versed in construction-specific accounting practices, percentage of completion work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and Sage 300 construction (Timberline) software. *Position Overview* The Controller will oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, risk management, and compliance across all active jobs. You will partner closely with executive leadership and project management to track job costs, optimize cash flow, manage surety/bonding relationships, and ensure accurate revenue recognition via Percentage of Completion (PoC) accounting. *Key Responsibilities* * *Full-Cycle Accounting & WIP:* Manage AP/AR, payroll, AIA progress billings, retainage, GL reconciliations, and monthly closing. * *Percentage of Completion (PoC):* Maintain accurate WIP schedules, analyze cost-to-complete estimates, and manage over/under billing. * *Systems:* Oversee financial operations in Sage 300 CRE / Timberline and manage integrations with job-costing and payroll tools. * *Cash & Compliance:* Forecast cash flow, manage bank/bonding relationships, track lien waivers, and ensure subcontractor compliance. Bank reconciliations. * *Leadership & Audit:* Supervise accounting staff, maintain internal controls, and coordinate year-end tax/audit filings with external CPAs. *Qualifications* * *Experience:* 5+ years of accounting experience, with 3+ years in a senior or Controller role within the construction industry. * *Methodology:* Deep knowledge of Percentage of Completion (PoC) accounting: job costing; and WIP schedules. * *Software:* High proficiency in Sage / Timberline and advanced Excel skills. * *Education & Credentials:* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field required. * *Core Skills:* Strong grasp of GAAP, lien laws, retainage, certified payroll, and construction tax/audit standards. *Application & Hiring Process* To apply, please submit your resume to jobs@whitessteel.com and cover letter detailing your relevant experience.
