Must exhibit the ability to work independently and provide customer service using CHOP ICARE values and Service Standards.What You Will DoCentral Lab Services - Specimen ProcessingAssess specimen requirements and specimen integrityTriage, accession, process, and deliver specimens following established proceduresPerform waived testingPrepare and distribute specialized collection containersExhaust all options problem-solving to avoid re-collection when possibleStore specimens according to laboratory-specific storage directives as neededCustomer ServiceFace-to-faceGuided by CHOP ICARE Values and Service StandardsInterfacing with patients, laboratory staff, medical staff, medical courier, and vendorsProvide a patient-centric collaborative experienceDiffuse anger or frustration, aim to provide solutionsAnswer questions and provide supportProper phone etiquette following established proceduresEnsure a warm tone of voiceDiffuse anger or frustration, aim to provide solutionsCall critical lab values to clinicianEquipment maintenanceMaintain and clean medical laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, vortex, refrigerator, freezers, glassware)InventoryBlood product inventory orderingRestocking suppliesAssists in monitoring of inventory controlLimited messenger service as requiredPromptly delivers specimens or paperwork throughout the health care campus as required.Promptly activates and executes the pneumatic tube downtime procedures as requiredIs knowledgeable in the use of resources to identify transport temperatures for all specimens and ensure stabilitySchedulingMust be flexible in scheduling and cooperation in performing all assigned tasksResponsible for working rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays when requiredPerforms other duties as assigned by the Lab leadership teamScheduleMonday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pmThis team does share weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basisEducation QualificationsHigh School Diploma / GED - RequiredExperience QualificationsScientific Laboratory - PreferredSkills And AbilitiesKnowledge: basic biology, basic chemistry, English language, customer service, public safety and security (Required proficiency)Technology skills: electronic mail, Microsoft Office applications, typing, internet software, Microsoft Windows (Required proficiency)Other skills: active listening, reading comprehension, critical thinking, speaking, complex problem solving, monitoring, time management, writing, active learning, coordination, judgement and decision making, service orientation, social perceptiveness.
