The Nuclear Radiation Protection Technician will perform various plant and environmental sample preparations for radiochemical analyses for gross alpha/beta, tritium, gamma, Sr-89/90, Fe-55, and Ni-63. Instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, gas flow proportional counters, liquid scintillation counters, and gamma spectroscopy.Duties And ResponsibilitiesPerforms duties to ensure that plant and environmental samples are prepared and analyzed in a timely and quality manner in support of the fleet radiological environmental management programs (REMP) and Radiological Effluent Control Program (RECP)Successfully complete Radiation Worker training to support work in Radiological Control AreasMay be asked to support nuclear fleet emergency response activities including, but not limited to, analyses of post-accident environmental samplesBasic / Required QualificationsRadiation Protection Technician I High School Diploma or Equivalent (e.g. GED)Radiation Protection Technician II Two year degree (Associate of Science) in radiation protection, or nuclear navy training, or equivalent education or training programs.
