Job Description The Manual Machinist operates under direct supervision to skillfully weld, machine, cut, and shape metal parts using various welding and machinist equipment. This role supports a medium team of 6-15 members and is involved in new equipment fabrication, repairs, maintenance, and diverse projects requiring precision metalworking. The machinist utilizes standard machine shop tools including manual lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and band saws, traveling 10-30% of the time to support work at different locations.ResponsibilitiesPrepare objects for welding by preheating, cleaning, positioning, and clamping partsDesign, repair, and fabricate machine components as requiredMaintain and repair pumps, motors, shafts, rudders, and utility equipment systemsPerform electric arc, MIG, TIG, and acetylene welding on various equipment and structuresRead and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specificationsMaintain, clean, and repair welding and machinist equipmentAlign, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpiecesOperate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and band saws to shape partsInspect, measure, and test completed parts for defects and conformance to specificationsPerform record keeping and inspection related to equipment maintenanceTravel as required to perform duties in various locations (10-30% travel) Required QualificationsTechnical school graduate or equivalent apprenticeshipValid motor vehicle operator's licenseProficient in MIG, TIG, and electric arc weldingExperience operating lathe, milling machine, drill press, and related machinist hand toolsAbility to read and interpret blueprints and job specificationsSufficient physical strength and dexterity to perform heavy lifting and manual tasks Preferred QualificationsTwo or more years of experience at the journey level in welding and machiningCompany DescriptionWelcome to Mike's Inc., your premier partner for comprehensive marine and industrial engine solutions.
