Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant

General SummaryIn collaboration with the physician, provides diagnosis and treatment of patients within the scope of practice as defined by all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, protocols, etc. and within the individual Advanced Practice Provider's (APP) particular clinical specialty area, licensure, and competency level. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Evaluates patients admitted to supervising physician?s service through physical examination and development of a detailed medical history.Develops treatment plan and discusses proposed course of treatment with patient?s attending physician.Performs patient rounds with accurate assessment of patient?s physical status, overall progress, and current laboratory evaluation.Writes progress notes on patients? charts indicating patient status and treatment of procedures performed.Determines and orders appropriate investigative studies and therapeutic regimens as outlined by supervising physician.Appropriately sees follow up patient appointments in practice setting and provides wound and dressing care as needed.Assists physician in the operating room during surgery.Common Expectations:Establishes effective working relationships with referring physicians, administrators, nursing, and technical staff.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.Demonstrates a commitment to the patient, visitors, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and ?error proof? systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Acts as a resource, educator, and consultant to staff.
