Social Justice Coordinator (part-time)
The Social Justice Coordinator supports and strengthens Cedar Lane's justice work. This is a coordination and communication role — the Coordinator serves as a connector, organizer, and communicator, helping lay-led ministry teams and community partners work effectively while keeping the congregation informed and engaged.Essential FunctionsFacilitates the monthly Social Justice Ministry Team meeting, including agenda preparation and action item follow-upAttends one individual social justice ministry team meeting per month, staying connected with each team's work and needsServes as a central point of contact across teams, fielding questions, connecting people to resources, and helping communication flowMaintains a shared calendar of all social justice events, actions, and deadlinesStaffs the social justice information table at Sunday worship twice per monthOnboards new congregants interested in getting involved in Cedar Lane's social justice workMaintains volunteer records in congregational database, tracking congregant interests and involvementCoordinates Cedar Lane's Share the Plate program, including researching and vetting recipient organizations, managing communications with recipients, and coordinating disbursementsAttends community partner meetings and actions as needed (Congregation Action Network, Action in Montgomery, and other coalitions)Tracks campaigns and resources from Unitarian Universalist justice networks (UUs for Social Justice, Side With Love, UU the Vote) and shares relevant opportunitiesHelps maintain Cedar Lane's accountable relationships with community partners, with particular attention to organizations led by and serving BIPOC, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communitiesWrites and distributes a monthly Social Justice enewsletterMaintains the social justice section of the Cedar Lane website with current information about team activities, events, and opportunitiesCreates simple flyers and graphics to publicize team events and actionsMaintains basic records for the social justice budget, including tracking expenditures and processing reimbursementsOther ResponsibilitiesParticipates in staff meetings and supervision meetings twice per monthAttends the annual all-staff retreatEngages in relevant professional development as opportunities ariseOther duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills RequiredDemonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and community. Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and engagingly for a general congregation audience. Organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and follow through reliably. Warm, people-centered approach, with comfort reaching out to and building relationships with congregants, partner organizations, and community members. Comfort working within a faith community context.Experience in community organizing, congregational life, or nonprofit coordination preferred. Familiarity with UU values and the UU justice tradition preferred. Commitment to immigrant justice, environmental justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ advocacy preferred. Proficiency with Google Workspace; familiarity with Realm or similar church management platform (or willingness to learn). Basic graphic design skills (Canva or similar) for event flyers and newsletter graphics preferred.
