Position Summary
The Shelter Manager plays a vital role in establishing a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment at our new shelter site. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of guests, team members, and volunteers while providing meaningful programs and resources that reflect the mission, vision, and values of our organization. The Manager leads the hiring and development of the team, oversees the maintenance and functionality of the facility, collaborates with other Managers and the Director to design impactful program activities, and fosters strong, positive relationships with community partners. This role is central to shaping the culture of the new shelter and making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the program and its activities are carried out in a way that reflects The Gathering Inn’s mission, vision, and values.
Lead and inspire your team to reach meaningful outcomes that support the organization’s goals and the guests we serve.
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and compassion. Model our “guest first” approach and encourage your team to make decisions guided by empathy and respect.
Create an environment where team members feel supported, informed, and empowered to do their best work within established policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with all relevant standards and practices while keeping guest care and dignity at the center of your work.
Identify challenges or risks that may impact the program and take thoughtful steps to address them.
Support accurate and respectful recordkeeping to help tell the story of our guests’ progress and the impact of our work.
Recruit, develop, and guide team members with care and intention, ensuring everyone receives the training, orientation, and mentorship they need to succeed.
Oversee Specialists and ensure the team is working collaboratively and effectively to meet the needs of our guests.
Oversee meal service to ensure that guests receive safe, healthy food provided with dignity and stewardship of resources.
Maintain open communication with your team and fellow managers to ensure seamless program delivery and to share ideas for improvement.
Build positive relationships with community partners, neighbors, and local agencies to strengthen collaboration and support for the program.
Partner with your Supervisor to ensure reports and documentation are accurate, timely, and reflective of the great work being done.
Connect regularly with guests and stakeholders to listen, learn, and incorporate feedback that helps the program grow stronger.
Oversee general maintenance needs of the facility, advocating for a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all.
