Engineering Manager – Machining Applications📍 Greater Milwaukee Area | Onsite 💰 $120,000 – $140,000 Base SalaryAbout the OpportunityAn established global manufacturer in the precision machining industry is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers supporting manufacturing operations, technical applications, and customer tooling solutions.This position will oversee a group of 10–11 engineers across manufacturing, applications, and project engineering, providing both people leadership and technical direction within a highly specialized machining environment.The role is opening due to a planned retirement, allowing for a structured transition and knowledge transfer with the current leader before they step away.This is an excellent opportunity for someone with cutting tool and machining expertise who enjoys mentoring engineers while remaining closely connected to technical problem-solving and customer solutions.What You’ll Be DoingEngineering LeadershipLead, mentor, and develop a team of Manufacturing, Application, and Project EngineersConduct regular one-on-one meetings and support long-term career development within the teamFoster a collaborative engineering culture focused on technical problem solving and continuous improvementTechnical & Operational SupportProvide technical guidance on cutting tool design, machining applications, and manufacturing processesSupport production teams with process development and engineering solutionsAssist sales teams and customers with special tooling design and application supportProject & Process ManagementOversee engineering projects including resource planning, scheduling, and budgetingReview tooling designs and manufacturing routings to ensure quality and manufacturabilityMaintain engineering documentation and support ERP/SAP process alignmentContinuous ImprovementAnalyze process metrics, rework drivers, and operational data to improve manufacturing efficiencyEvaluate and implement new technologies such as EDM machining, laser cutting, and advanced tool measurement systemsSupport corrective action processes and technical problem resolutionCross-Functional CollaborationPartner closely with Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, and R&D teamsSupport special tooling quotations and customer technical issuesMaintain strong relationships with vendors and key customersWhat We’re Looking For5+ years of experience in the cutting tool industryStrong understanding of machining processes, metalworking methods, and tooling applicationsExperience designing or applying round cutting toolsFamiliarity with CNC machining environmentsExperience with Siemens NX or SolidWorksKnowledge of tool holders, spindle adaptation, and machining setupsDemonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilityDegree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred, or equivalent industry experienceWhy This Role Stands OutOpportunity to lead engineering for a highly specialized cutting tool manufacturerPlanned leadership transition with knowledge transfer from the current Engineering ManagerStable organization with long employee tenure and strong cultureClean, climate-controlled manufacturing environmentHigh-impact leadership role supporting both manufacturing and customer solutions
