Associate Chief Medical Officer & VP Medical Affairs
The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) and Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) at the hospital plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing clinical excellence, patient safety, and operational effectiveness across the hospital. With a primary reporting relationship to the EVP/Chief Physician Executive of GBMC HealthCare and a secondary reporting relationship to the Hospital EVP/Chief Operating Officer, this position maintains an active clinical practice while providing executive oversight for medical staff governance, institutional review board, and quality improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include championing hospital quality and safety, optimizing patient flow and resource utilization, ensuring clinical documentation integrity, and fostering collaborative relationships among medical staff, hospital leadership, and stakeholders. Lead relevant local quality and safety committees. Partner with Quality & Safety (Q&S) team leadership as the physician subject matter expert (SME) and physician champion to achieve system goals. In particular, champion excellence for the federal and state quality initiatives (MHAC, QBR, RRIP, VBP, etc.)Support the Quality department to ensure regulatory readiness for Joint Commission & other regulatory surveys.Foster a culture of safety, high reliability, and Zero Harm.Hospital ThroughputServes as the executive physician leader accountable for hospital throughput, patient flow, & inpatient capacity management.Champions a culture of proactive patient progression, engaging physician and nursing leaders to remove barriers to timely care.Leads hospital-wide initiatives to improve coordination across continuum, reducing avoidable delays, & optimizing use of hospital resources. Clinical Documentation Integrity & Case Mix OptimizationPartner with the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) and coding teams to engage physicians in accurate, complete documentation that reflects true patient acuity, and supports an optimized case mix index.Champions physician education and accountability for documentation practices that advance quality reporting, appropriate reimbursement, and regulatory compliance. Utilization Review And Resource StewardshipCollaborate with Utilization Review, physician advisors, and case management to ensure medical necessity, appropriate level-of-care decisions, and efficient use of hospital resource. Champions physician accountability for documentation and clinical judgement that support appropriate utilization and accurate representation of patient status. Medical Staff GovernanceAssist the medical staff officers, Medical Board Committee, Medical staff committees, and Department Chairs in carrying out their functions.Work collaboratively with the Chairs of all Medical Staff Committees as an ex-oficio, non-voting member of all medical staff committees.Support Medical Staff leadership to improve medical staff functions and governance.Assist Medical Staff leadership in the oversight of the conduct of Medical Staff members privileged at the Hospital in accordance with Hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.Participate in the development or revision of hospital policies and procedures relevant to medical staff and medical staff affairs.Support Medical Staff Leadership to ensure appropriate dialogue about the strategic initiatives of the Medical Staff and the Hospital.Assist medical staff credentialing specialist, elected medical staff officers, and the Chair of Credentials Committee to coordinate medical staff credentialing including the review of credentials, delineation of clinical privileges, & development of privileges.Support the Quality Department and Medical Staff Leadership in Peer Review and in the development of appropriate OPPE and FPPE.Stakeholder Communication & CollaborationOpen, transparent, & strategic communicationServe as a liaison between executive leadership and medical staff to ensure alignment on quality and safety priorities and initiatives.Develops and maintains effective relationships with other Hospital employees, the medical staff, patients and visitors to promote a positive response to the Hospital and a positive work environment.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift up to ten (10) pounds maximum and occasionally lifts or carry small item (files, manual, binder).Ability concentrate and pay close attention to detail.Must be able to work occasional weekends and attend employee or business functions in evenings or early mornings, outside of normal business hours.Working ConditionsNormal office work environment.Must maintain an active clinical practice within GBMC HealthCare All roles must demonstrate GBMC ValuesGBMC ValuesValue DescriptionRespectI will treat everyone with courtesy.
