Intern
Interns work alongside our employee-owners and contribute to real projects based on their area of study, interests, experience, and the needs of their local office. Opportunities may be available in civil engineering, surveying, construction observation, CADD, planning, landscape architecture, GIS, environmental services, and other related areas.
Internship positions are available in most Interstate Engineering office locations. Specific opportunities, responsibilities, and availability may vary by office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Depending on the internship assignment, responsibilities may include:
Assisting with the planning, design, and development of infrastructure and community-based projects
Supporting project teams with calculations, research, data collection, documentation, and other technical tasks
Preparing or updating plans, drawings, maps, exhibits, reports, and project records
Participating in fieldwork, surveying, construction observation, site visits, or data collection
Assisting with CADD, GIS, design, or other industry-related software
Working collaboratively with engineers, surveyors, planners, landscape architects, technicians, construction staff, and other professionals
Attending team meetings and learning about project coordination, communication, and client service
Following company procedures and applicable quality and safety standards
Completing other duties and learning opportunities as assigned
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a college, university, or technical program related to civil engineering, surveying, construction management, CADD, planning, landscape architecture, GIS, environmental science, or another related field
Interest in gaining hands-on experience in a professional consulting environment
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and learn from others
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Familiarity with industry-related software is helpful but not required
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites may be required for certain assignments
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements will vary based on the internship assignment. Some positions may require working outdoors, walking over uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, lifting equipment or materials, and working in varying weather conditions.
