We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to add to our core team in manufacturing operations. This is a full-time position in our Middlesex, NJ location, reporting directly to the company President. JOB SUMMARY The Mechanical Design Engineer leads the design effort and serves as the technical focal point for all phases of a project (estimate, sales proposal, customer contact, manufacturing, and shipment and set-up of equipment). PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the knowledge base which consists of, but is not limited to, processes, documentation, engineering change orders, bills of material, product tables and system logs. Create and evaluate the documentation used in production. Provide technical assistance during the sales phase of the project, including providing estimates of hours for design efforts. Designs to meet requirements, ensure requirements are satisfied, while balancing the constraints of time and money. Answers technical questions and resolving technical problems regarding the design, operation, and reliability of the equipment. Responsible for the design of the equipment, development of customer and internal drawings and BOM. Creates the design schedule, establishes milestones, and manages the design effort to ensure quality and timeliness of the completed design package. Serves as the primary focal point for all technical communications with the customer. Establishes and maintains a design baseline and manages change orders. Responds to shop floor feedback regarding technical problems encountered or improvements suggested during manufacture. Manages the resolution/ improvement process. Inspects incoming equipment; completes FAT prior to shipment; creates and maintains manuals for products and custom job orders. Travels to customer sites for SAT and IQ/OQ. Strong customer service skills and project management. MUST TRAVEL Proficient with AB Controls (PLC, HMI, VFDs), ladder logic and trouble shooting, instrumentation, and sensors for industrial controls. Manage the transferring of 2D CAD system to 3D (SolidWorks); Maintains CAD and SolidWorks databases and ensure accurate and timely retrieval of all engineering data. Creates a system to maximize standardization of products and to effectively deviate from standard designs when necessary. Designs and maintains a system to ensure the continuous improvement of the engineering function to establish the company as a leader in state-of-the-art technology within its product lines. Establishes the policies and procedures for tasks within this role to be performed on a continuing basis. QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS REQUIRED: Education level: BS in Mechanical Engineering Degree or related area in Engineering Experience: 5+ years experience working in a similar role or within an engineering firm or department that required similar tasks. 10+ yrs experience with Auto CAD; 5 yrs+ experience with SolidWorks Specific skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Outlook) Proficient in Auto CAD and SolidWorks Experience with ERP systems required. Proficient with industrial controls and instrumentation. Project Management training and experience as Project Manager or in a role with responsibility of managing projects preferred Able to support multiple efforts and track progress against timelines Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exceptional organization and time management skills Ability to define problems, research and check facts, and draw valid conclusions. Solid decision-making skills. Personal characteristics: Sense of urgency and ability to withstand demanding work flow.
