Sr. System Test Engineer - HiL Remote - U.S, Ann Arbor, MI
At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business. A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.Meet the TeamJoin our Systems Test team, where we validate the safety and performance of Torc's autonomous driving system through hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) testing and simulation. Our team operates at the intersection of software, hardware, and autonomy, ensuring that complex system behaviors are thoroughly tested before deployment to vehicle platforms. As a Senior Systems Test Engineer – HiL, you will play a key role in designing, building, and executing HiL-based validation strategies for autonomous driving software. You'll work closely with systems, perception, planning, and software teams to ensure seamless integration and high‐quality system performance across the autonomy stack. What You'll DoDesign, develop, and maintain HiL test benches to support validation of autonomous driving software and system‐level functionalityDefine and execute test strategies, test cases, and validation plans based on system requirements, safety goals, and integration needsDevelop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks to improve test coverage, repeatability, and efficiencyIntegrate hardware and software components into HiL environments, managing interfaces, data flows, and synchronization across subsystemsConduct verification and validation (V&V) activities in alignment with safety standards such as ISO 26262Support the integration and validation of new autonomy features across perception, sensor fusion, and vehicle control systemsUtilize tools and frameworks such as ROS/ROS2, CAN-based systems, and simulation platforms for testing and debuggingAnalyze test results, investigate system‐level issues, and collaborate cross‐functionally to drive resolutionDocument test procedures, results, and defects, and communicate findings to engineering and program stakeholdersContinuously improve HiL infrastructure, tooling, and workflows to support scalable and efficient testingWhat You'll Need to SucceedBachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Automotive Engineering, or a related fieldStrong experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing, including test bench setup, integration, and maintenanceExperience working with HiL platforms such as dSPACE, National Instruments (NI), Vector, or similar systemsSolid understanding of autonomous driving systems, including sensors (LiDAR, radar, cameras), perception, sensor fusion, and vehicle dynamicsExperience developing and executing test cases and validation plans for complex systemsProficiency in Python and/or C++, with experience building test automation and toolingExperience with ROS/ROS2, including node development, system integration, and debugging tools (e.g., rviz, rosbag)Familiarity with CAN protocols and tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, or similarExperience integrating complex systems across hardware and software boundariesStrong problem‐solving skills and ability to debug system‐level issues in complex environmentsAbility to collaborate effectively with cross‐functional teams in a fast‐paced environmentBonus PointsExperience testing autonomous vehicles or ADAS systems in production or pre‐production environmentsFamiliarity with simulation frameworks or model‐based development toolsExperience supporting safety‐critical system validation and regulatory requirementsExperience working in Agile or SAFe environmentsExposure to cloud‐based data systems or large‐scale test data analysisWork LocationFor this position, we are open to hiring in Ann Arbor, MI (U.S.) office work locations in a hybrid capacity.
