Elementary Classroom Assistant - EduStaff - $12/hr
Brandon School District is seeking a Classroom Assistant for Harvey Swanson Elementary!
This position is contracted through EduStaff.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82ndpercentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet one of the following requirements:
Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours)*; or
Obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or
Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas:
❖Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
❖ Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
The State Board of Education approved the following formal assessments by which a paraprofessional may choose to demonstrate this knowledge: Basic Skills Examination • A passing score on the score Basic Skills Test MTTC
A passing score of at least 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section of the SAT and 530 on the mathematics section in lieu of the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam
Other basic skills examination options ETS Parapro Assessment - A passing score of 460 is required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Awareness of child development theory and practice
· Ability to develop, implement, and monitor age appropriate activities
· Knowledge of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of elementary children
· Strong organizational and leadership skills
· Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with elementary age children, parents, and other staff
· Ability to keep private materials confidential
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Works closely with classroom teachers to support and reinforce the teacher’s instructional plan to help students succeed in the regular program, attain grade level proficiency and improve achievement in all Core Curriculum areas
· Demonstrates initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementation
· Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
· Maintains composure under stressful conditions
· Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
· May participate in professional development activities within and outside of the District
· Perform other duties as assigned by supervising teacher and/or Supervisor

WORKDAY/WEEK: Per Building Schedule; Monday – Friday - follows the school calendar
