Coordinator I Human ResourcesThe Coordinator I Human Resources provides operational and strategic support to the Human Resources function within the district, assisting in the recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of district personnel. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and district policies, supports employee relations, and fosters a positive, equitable, and professional work environment. The Coordinator serves as a resource to staff, administration, and external stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.Minimum Required Qualifications:Education/Training: Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.Licensure/Endorsements: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or comparable out-of-state certification preferred. Administrative endorsement (General Administrative or Principal) preferred.Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in human resources, employee relations, investigations, school administration, or related public sector work, preferably in K-12 or public sector settings.Knowledge/Abilities/Skills: Knowledge of employment and education laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, IHRA, Illinois School Code, Faith's Law, IELRA). Strong interviewing, documentation, report writing, conflict resolution, and communication skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality. Proficiency with HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and standard office software. Ability to analyze data for reporting and decision-making. Commitment to equitable, culturally responsive, and inclusive practices. Ability to work flexible hours as needed.Desired Qualifications (Preferred but not required): Doctorate degree. Bilingual (Spanish preferred). SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or related HR certification. Experience in K12 public education, a governmental agency, or a unionized environment. Experience supporting collective bargaining or compliance reporting (e.g., ISBE audits).Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Recruitment and Staffing Support: Coordinate recruitment processes including posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and assisting with candidate communications. Conduct reference checks and assist with the hiring process in compliance with district policies. Support onboarding and orientation of new employees, including documentation and benefits of enrollment. Maintain accurate records of employment actions, certifications, and personnel files.Employee Relations and Compliance: Assist with employee relations matters under the guidance of the Deputy Superintendent of Operations. Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and district policies. Assist in tracking staff evaluations, certifications, and professional development requirements. Respond to staff inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits.Professional Development and Staff Support: Assist in planning and coordinating staff training and professional development opportunities. Support HR initiatives that promote retention, engagement, and employee satisfaction. Maintain HR databases and reporting tools to monitor compliance and performance metrics.Administrative and Operational Duties: Prepare reports, correspondence, presentations, and other HR-related documents. Coordinate meetings, schedules, and HR department events. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and district information. Support special projects and other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of Operations.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of HR principles, employment law, and personnel administration. Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional discretion and ability to handle confidential information. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and HR information systems. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and work independently.Physical & Environmental Requirements: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, typing, speaking, and listening; light lifting up to 25 lbs. Ability to maintain emotional control, manage confidential information, and work under occasional stress. Occasional extended or irregular hours may be required. Primarily office environment with frequent interruptions and multiple deadlines. Occasional flexibility required for evening or weekend events, recruitment activities, or professional development sessions.Position Goals: Annually, the employee and supervisor will establish performance goals as part of the evaluation process.
