Overview The role of an Optometrist is vital in providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. Optometrists are responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating visual problems and eye diseases. This position requires a strong foundation in medical knowledge, patient care, and the ability to work with various systems related to eye health. Duties Conduct thorough eye examinations to assess vision and detect eye diseases. Diagnose and manage conditions such as refractive errors, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Provide patient education on eye health, contact lens usage, and proper eye care practices. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient visits. Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care. Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to ensure patient safety. Stay updated on advancements in optometry practices and technologies. Skills Strong knowledge of physiology related to the visual system. Proficient in patient care practices with a focus on comfort and understanding. Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to optometry and ophthalmology. Experience with optical systems and equipment used in eye examinations. Understanding of medical coding for accurate billing processes. Ability to work effectively with pediatric patients, ensuring a friendly environment for children. Competence in managing medical records efficiently while adhering to privacy regulations.
