Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Nights)

Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Emergency Room team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients experiencing urgent medical conditions, ensuring rapid assessment, stabilization, and treatment. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history documentation using EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner. Triage incoming patients efficiently to determine urgency levels and prioritize care based on clinical presentation and acuity. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform suturing as needed to stabilize patients in emergency situations. Manage airway interventions, ventilator support, and oxygen therapy for critically ill patients in accordance with best practices. Conduct diagnostic evaluations including specimen collection, laboratory testing, and basic imaging procedures such as CT scans or sonography when necessary. Provide acute pain management and coordinate with specialists for complex cases involving trauma medicine or infectious disease care. Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to develop discharge plans, including post-acute care or hospice & palliative medicine referrals. Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, HIPAA regulations, and medical documentation standards. Participate in ongoing training on ICD-10 coding, CPT coding for procedures, and updates related to NCQA standards for quality assurance. Support patients with diverse needs including geriatrics, pediatrics, behavioral health cases, or individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care requirements. Demonstrate proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient care activities. Qualifications Valid RN license in good standing with current state requirements. Proven emergency room experience with a strong understanding of trauma protocols at Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred. Critical care experience including ICU or PICU settings is highly desirable. Knowledge of advanced cardiac procedures such as cardiac catheterization and trauma medicine practices. Familiarity with medical imaging modalities like CT scans and sonography enhances patient assessment capabilities. Experience administering injections, IV insertion, catheterization (including Foley catheters), ostomy care, and ventilator management required. Skilled in triage procedures and working efficiently under pressure in urgent care or hospital environments. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, pharmacology principles for medication administration, and physiology knowledge essential for high-quality patient care. Ability to work with diverse populations including children (neonatal ventilators), seniors (geriatrics), individuals with disabilities or memory care needs. Proficiency in laboratory procedures such as specimen collection/processing and phlebotomy is advantageous. Familiarity with medical coding systems like ICD-9/10 and CPT coding for accurate documentation is preferred.
