Qualifications:Must hold or have the ability to obtain North Carolina Teacher Licensure OR Must meet the qualifications for Residency Teacher LicensureMust hold or have the ability to obtain EC CertificationMust have knowledge of curriculumMust have knowledge of referral and placement proceduresSupervises:Exceptional Children Teacher AssistantEssential Job Functions:Develops and implements an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system wide curricular goals and the students' Individual Education Program.Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests, other assessment procedures and progress monitoring tools to update IEPs as needed.Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.Creates Classroom Management PlansMonitors student behavior; monitors behavior goals on IEP and progress on BIP; utilizes daily behavior intervention logs; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies; restrains students when necessary; records and reports restrains.Provides daily social skills instruction; provides opportunities for students to practice their newly acquired skillsAssists disabled students with their personal and self-help needs, such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks that the students are not able to perform by themselves.Facilitates, develops and monitors FBA as neededMonitors academic and attendance performanceCommunicates with parents regarding their children's educational progress via periodic written progress reportsActs as a case coordinator for assigned students; collaborates with community care- givers, school support professionals, and parents to better understand and meet student needsMaintains student records in accordance with North Carolina's Procedures GoverningPrograms and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with state and federal education statutesTreats all students in a fair and equitable manner, interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and communityPerforms all other duties as assignedPhysical and Cognitive Requirements:The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Exceptional Children Teacher job classification within the Exceptional Children Program of Hoke County Schools.
