Artificial Intelligence Engineering Intern
Company DescriptionMemtech Acoustics has been a leader in noise and vibration control solutions across the Midwest for over 25 years. We specialize in designing and providing a wide range of acoustic products, including custom enclosures, noise barriers, wall panels, and sound masking systems. Our services include site consultations, noise studies, material specification, and installation to address the unique needs of various industries. Through innovative and effective solutions, we aim to enhance sound quality, reduce noise, and ensure workplace compliance with regulatory standards. We are committed to delivering customized, functional, and aesthetically pleasing noise control solutions.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role for an Artificial Intelligence Engineering Intern located in Rochester Hills, MI. The intern will work on developing, testing, and implementing machine learning models and AI-driven solutions to support operational and marketing priorities. Duties will include analyzing data, assisting in programming tasks, and contributing to research and development projects. Collaboration with engineers and technical teams to refine algorithms and optimize solutions is a key component of this role. This internship is not a sandbox project. There is a working agent system in production: MCP connectors into JobTread, GoHighLevel, QuickBooks, and Microsoft 365. A routing classifier triaging inbound leads with a feedback loop capturing override events. An LLM-maintained Obsidian knowledge graph that ingests sources, updates entity pages, and flags contradictions. Skills authored as deterministic Markdown procedures. What you will actually do:Improve and audit the routing classifier against real override events. Measure precision, recall, F1 on imbalanced classes.Extend the agent skill library and the knowledge graph schema where retrieval accuracy is thin.Operational analytics: pipeline health, proposal sanity checks against pricing bands, classifier drift over time.Stack: Python, Anthropic API, MCP, Git, Obsidian. You will read code before you write it.QualificationsStrong knowledge in Computer Science with a focus on algorithms and data structuresProficiency in Data Science techniques and advanced Analytical SkillsPractical experience with Machine Learning development and applicationsHands-on expertise in Programming, including languages such as Python, R, or similarAbility to collaborate with technical teams effectively and contribute to innovative problem-solvingStrong communication and organizational skillsEnthusiasm for solving complex challenges in noise and vibration controlPursuing or completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related fieldRequired: pursuing or recently completed a CS, Data Science, AI, or EE degree. Strong Python. Working knowledge of at least one ML framework and the math underneath it. Ability to define what "correct" means for a task before writing the code, and to measure it after. Direct written communication. Precision over polish.Preferred: retrieval-augmented systems, agentic tool use beyond prompt engineering, DSP or acoustics coursework (Fourier analysis, octave-band filtering), classifier evaluation experience. If your first reaction reading this is "I would want to see the current classifier's F1 and error modes before proposing changes," the role is calibrated for you.On-site only.To apply: résumé plus a short note describing one technical project you owned end-to-end. What was the problem, how did you measure success, what changed in your approach after seeing the results.
