A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.Must be a current Sam Houston State University employee in order to be considered for this position.Nature & Purpose Of PositionPlans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of a department with the oversight of the Director. Performs highly complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning in the Academic Success Center department.This is a full-time, temporary, grant funded position expected to end on or before 01/01/2028. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.Primary ResponsibilitiesDesigns and implements comprehensive academic intervention programs targeting students at critical transition points. Develops evidence-based support models including proactive coaching frameworks, academic skill-building curricula, and structured intervention systems aligned with institutional student success goals. Establishes protocols for program delivery, assessment, continuous improvement, and long-term sustainability of effective interventions. Leads curriculum development and oversight for academic success courses and intervention programming. Coordinates course approval processes through institutional governance structures. Designs learning frameworks grounded in metacognitive strategies, resilience-building, and self-regulated learning principles. Oversees facilitation, assessment, and refinement of curriculum based on student outcomes and pedagogical best practices. Partners with the Director to develop and implement strategic initiatives that advance the center’s mission and institutional priorities. Translates strategic vision into operational plans and measurable outcomes. Identifies emerging student needs and develops responsive support strategies. Establishes systems and processes that ensure quality, consistency, scalability, and effectiveness of academic support services. Leads organizational innovation and continuous improvement efforts. Builds and maintains strategic partnerships across academic and student affairs divisions. Serves as primary liaison with campus stakeholders including Enrollment Management, Advising, Registrar, Student Affairs, and academic departments. Develops collaborative protocols and integrated workflows that connect students to comprehensive support resources and coordinated intervention services. Provides direct supervision to professional staff, graduate assistants, and lead coaches. Develops staff capacity through training, mentoring, performance management, and professional development. Assigns workload priorities aligned with departmental and institutional goals. Oversees recruitment, selection, onboarding, and evaluation processes for assigned staff. Fosters collaboration and continuous learning within the team environment. Maintains strategic oversight of center operations including early alert systems, academic coaching programs, and student intervention protocols. Develops processes for identifying at-risk students, triaging referrals, and coordinating timely interventions based on student needs and risk factors. Ensures quality, consistency, and effectiveness of support services across programs and initiatives. Plans and coordinates targeted outreach initiatives for diverse student populations using data-informed strategies. Develops engagement programming that addresses academic, social, and systemic barriers to student success. Assesses outreach effectiveness and implements improvements to maximize student participation, persistence, and outcomes. Interprets and analyzes data related to student outcomes, program effectiveness, and intervention impact. Collaborates with institutional research partners to develop assessment frameworks and tracking systems. Translates findings into actionable recommendations that support strategic planning, program improvement, and institutional decision-making. Prepares reports, presentations, and program documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Represents the center and institution through professional networks, conferences, collaborative partnerships, presentations, and publications. Develops implementation resources and facilitates knowledge-sharing opportunities that support advancement in academic support and student success practices.
