Job DescriptionCSS has partnered with a well-established high-end residential construction company on Cape Cod who is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations while serving as a key partner to ownership and project leadership.This is a highly visible, hands-on role within a close-knit organization known for complex, custom residential projects. The Controller will oversee the full accounting function, own construction financial reporting and job costing, manage payroll, and help strengthen the systems and processes supporting the company’s continued growth.The ideal candidate brings a strong construction accounting background, understands the financial dynamics of project-based work, and is comfortable operating at both a strategic and day-to-day level.What You’ll DoLead the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and reconciliationsManage monthly, quarterly and year-end close processesPrepare accurate financial statements and management reportingOversee construction job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition and margin analysisReview project budgets, actual costs, profitability and financial variancesPartner closely with project and operational leaders to monitor financial performanceLead budgeting, forecasting and company-wide cash flow planningMonitor working capital and project-specific cash requirementsMaintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures and reporting processesEvaluate current workflows and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracyServe as a primary financial contact for banking, insurance, tax and outside accounting relationshipsCoordinate audits, tax filings and other external reporting requirementsOversee payroll administration and related employee recordsSupport benefits administration, HR policies and employment complianceManage or mentor accounting staff and outside financial resourcesProvide financial insight to ownership around planning, investments, projects and business decisionsWhat We’re Looking ForBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field5+ years of progressive accounting or financial leadership experienceConstruction industry experience requiredStrong experience with job costing, WIP schedules and project-based financial reportingHands-on payroll experienceStrong understanding of general ledger accounting, AP, AR, month-end close and financial statementsExperience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow managementAbility to work directly with ownership and operational leadersComfortable in a smaller, hands-on environment where the Controller remains close to the detailsStrong organizational, analytical and communication skillsHelpful, But Not RequiredQuickBooksBuildertrend or similar construction/project management softwareCPAExperience supporting benefits administration, HR policies and employment complianceWhy Consider This Opportunity?This role offers an uncommon combination of senior-level ownership and hands-on influence.
