Dimensional Engineering Specialist
In this role, you’ll drive dimensional engineering activities related to chassis commodities, including tolerance analysis, measurement strategy development, variation simulation, and build troubleshooting. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure dimensional feasibility, product quality, and manufacturability throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and collaborative engineering professional with deep expertise in dimensional management, GD&T, and variation analysis within automotive or complex manufacturing environments. As a Dimensional Engineering Specialist, you'll:Define and establish datum schemes, tolerances, and dimensional requirements for chassis commodities.Lead Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) activities to support feasibility assessments and design validation.Oversee drawing reviews and dimensional validation processes for assigned vehicle systems and components.Develop and implement measurement strategies to support manufacturing and quality objectives.Approve fixtures and dimensional tooling in alignment with project and engineering requirements.Perform 1D and 3D stack-up analyses to evaluate dimensional feasibility and variation risks.Support build troubleshooting activities related to dimensional and fitment issues.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to communicate dimensional risks, requirements, and solutions.Mentor and support team members on dimensional engineering best practices and methodologies.Key Responsibilities: Define and establish datum schemes, tolerances, and requirements for chassis commodities. Serve as Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) lead for feasibility assessments. Oversee the drawing-check process for designated vehicle commodities. Define and implement measurement strategies. Approve fixtures in accordance with project requirements. Required skillsProficiency in performing 1D/3D stack-up analyses to evaluate design feasibility. Ability to organize and present complex technical information in a clear, concise, and impactful manner across the organization. Experience in Build troubleshooting. Capability to train and mentor team members. Advanced knowledge of GD&T principles, with proven ability to create and validate technical drawings. Practical experience using CATIA V5/V6 to visualize and interrogate 3D models for dimensional evaluation, create reference geometry (planes, points), identify critical interfaces and functional datums; basic drawing creation and familiarity with 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) preferred. Business driver of roleRequired Attributes Knowledge of basic statistical concepts and process control. Strong understanding of Variation Simulation Analysis tools. Knowledge of measurement systems and manufacturing processes. Understanding of dimensional engineering deliverables within the vehicle development process. Proficiency in standard PC tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). Minimum 6 years’ experience in dimensional management. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
