This role requires strong market knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and inventory levels in a fast-paced environment.ResponsibilitiesPurchase dimensional lumber, plywood and specialty wood productsBuild and maintain relationships with mills, wholesalers, and suppliersNegotiate pricing, terms, and freight agreementsMonitor market trends and pricing fluctuationsManage inventory levels to meet demand while minimizing excessWork closely with sales and operations teams to forecast needsEnsure materials meet required grades and quality standardsIdentify new suppliers and cost-saving opportunitiesTrack and report purchasing performance and market insightsOther duties as assigned Qualifications3+ years of experience as a lumber buyer or in building materials purchasingStrong knowledge of lumber species, grades, and market conditions; ability to analyze market trends and make informed buying decisionsProven negotiation and vendor management skillsProficiency in Excel and purchasing/inventory systemsExperience buying directly from millsBackground in construction or building supply Required SkillsAble to successfully pass a criminal background check (following a conditional offer of employment)Ability to sit/stand at desk/workstation for prolonged periods of time; frequent use of hands/fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse; repetitive hand/wrist motions Preferred SkillsWork efficiently in a fast-paced environmentMaintain a positive, professional demeanor at all timesProvide outstanding customer service to internal and external clientsBe very detail oriented and well organizedPossess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and writtenBe skilled at problem solving and analysis Pay range and compensation package[Pay range or salary or compensation]Equal Opportunity Statement[Include a statement on commitment to diversity and inclusivity.]
