Regulatory Engineer
AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.Position Overview We are seeking a Regulatory Engineer with a strong background in wireless or mobile technologies to support and advance our regulatory initiatives. This role involves preparing technical documentation, engaging with regulatory bodies including seeking regulatory authorizations, and advocating for technical rules that align with the organization’s strategic goals in satellite and telecommunications across the globe in domestic and international bodies.Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit applications to national communications regulators, including technical exhibitsEngage with national, regional, and international regulatory bodies on spectrum and other technical issues.Support satellite coordination efforts, including spectrum analysis and sharing techniques for MSS networksAdvocate for optimized satellite and telecom technical regulatory frameworksDevelop and promote technical rules that support the organization’s business objectivesRepresent the organization in domestic and international regulatory forums and industry eventsAdvise internal teams on policy and industry developments affecting technical outcomesQualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field. A graduate degree is a plus.Experience: Three to eight years of experience in technology, with a focus on wireless technologies.Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated interest in wireless technology.Knowledge of regional technology and policy issues for wireless and/or satellite companiesTechnical expertise in satellite link budgets, mobile device standards, and wireless technologies Understanding of spectrum and industry practices in wireless or satellite communicationsInterest and/or experience working with regulators, policymakers, and government agenciesWillingness to travel approximately 20% of the timeSoft Skills Strong interpersonal skillsProven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teamsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsMeticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and project deliverablesTechnology Stack Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Spectrum analysis tools and software (e.g., Visualyze, MATLAB)Regulatory submission platforms (e.g., BR Space Application software)Communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)Physical Requirements Ability to work in a standard office environmentAbility to use a computer for extended periodsAbility to travel domestically and internationally as neededThis job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed.
