Detailed Description Duties: Repairs, troubleshoots and provides electrical and electronic technical advice pertaining to: GRS and US&S cab signal equipment, G.E. static converters, BBC static converters, GE cam control propulsion equipment, BBC chopper propulsion equipment, NYAB brake microprocessor equipment, Safety Electric HVAC controls, ACI HVAC controls, and Breda door and pantograph control. Designs, builds, and calibrates test equipment and test fixtures for electrical and electronic equipment for which no test equipment was available or provided by the manufacturer. Tests and documents vehicles’ performance (e.g., acceleration and deceleration rates) by instrumenting vehicle with chart recorder. Maintains, draws and updates schematics of electrical or electronic systems. Repairs and calibrates electronic and electrical test (e.g. battery charges, diagnostic test equipment, power supplies, meters) equipment used by Central Rail Maintenance Facility. Maintains stock of electronic component parts. Reviews specifications for Technical Services and Procurement Departments involving electrical and electronic used at Central Rail Maintenance Facility. Assumes Assistant RT Shop Supervisor and/or RT Shop Supervisor duties as may be required. This position will promote a safe and secure atmosphere, follow all safety and security rules and perform other related duties as assigned.Job Requirements Minimum Requirements: Applicants MUST have a high school diploma or its GED equivalent.Associate Degree or equivalent verification of graduation from technical school in electrical-electronic engineering or a similar program preferred.Applicants must possess a minimum of two (2) years previous verifiable experience diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic components on heavy mechanical equipment.Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic components on Tokyu and Breda rail cars preferred.Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in theory and practical work with integrated circuits, power devices and related test equipment.Applicants must have a working knowledge of analog and digital control systems as well as the components inherent in these systems.The duties of this position are performed in a shop environment, therefore, the successful candidate may be expected to lift, pull, push and carry heavy objects (40-50 lbs.), climb metal stairs, work on top and under rail vehicles, walk to various work sites within the rail department, and perform various electrical and electronic work directly on the trains.Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.Additional Details Working Conditions: The working conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating. Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position. The position is also safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to perform the duties of the position, which may include working with circuits carrying lethal voltages (480 volts AC and 600 volts DC). Examination Information: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, performance assessment and/or interview, and record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum of 70% on all parts of the process, except 60% on the interview portion, to move forward in the process.Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Written 70%, Performance 30%. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written 50%, Performance 35%, Record Evaluation 15%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting.
