Summer Fitness Instructor Assistant InternThe New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. The DOC Agility Team is seeking an energetic and reliable Summer Intern to support our fitness instruction team. This role is an entry level position ideal for someone passionate about health, wellness, and teamwork in a structured environment.Making sure you fit the guidelines as an applicant for this role is essential, please read the below carefully.Key Responsibilities:Set up, organize, and maintain fitness equipment for daily useAssist with and occasionally lead training sessions with support of senior trainers.Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and participate in workouts as neededProvide general administrative support, including answering phones and taking messagesUtilize basic office tools such as printers, Microsoft Word, and ExcelSupport daily operationsQualifications:Strong interest in fitness and ability to perform physical exercisesPositive attitude with strong team-oriented energyComfortable working in a professional environment alongside both law enforcement and civilian staffGood communication and organizational skillsBasic proficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelMinimum Qualifications:As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year). NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.Public Service Loan Forgiveness:As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
