Role SummaryLeidos is seeking a Software Development III to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector, supporting the development of the Leidos Common Automation Platform (L-CAP) for the Leidos common baseline program. This role focuses on developing microservices-based applications in an Agile / SAFe environment while supporting a mission-critical, hybrid cloud data mesh automation platform.Location: 9737 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878Position Type: Hybrid, Leidos siteSchedule: 40 hours/week, typical 9-5 scheduleAssignment Type: Temporary with possible FTE conversionTarget Start Date: 05/26/2026Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using modern software engineering best practices.Collaborate with product owners, architects, systems engineering, product delivery, DevSecOps, QA, platform, and program teams.Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.Translate requirements into working software solutions.Develop clean, maintainable, and testable code following CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.Contribute to system design discussions and technical decision-making.Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.Required Technical SkillsAgile experience.AI / AI Assistants coding.C++.Hands-on experience building and supporting microservices-based systems.Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, or similar, on a Linux-based system.Understanding of APIs and distributed system concepts.Experience working in Agile environments.Preferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsMicroservice skills.Java.Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, including Claude-Code, automation, or intelligent platforms.Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).Relational and/or NoSQL databases.Kafka or other event-streaming technologies.Cloud experience: AWS, Azure, or GCP.Containerization and orchestration experience: Docker, Kubernetes.DevSecOps environments.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.2-4 years of professional software development experience.U.S. Citizenship required.Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.Public Trust eligible; can start contingent.Clearance/access may be obtained post-hire.Background investigation required by the government customer.About the Team / CompanyThis role supports an Agile development team pod of approximately 6-7 people.
