Construction Estimator (Industrial / Commercial / Retail)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support preconstruction and bidding activities for industrial, commercial, and retail projects. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates, perform quantity takeoffs, analyze subcontractor proposals, and collaborate with project teams to develop winning bids while maintaining profitability and risk management.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for industrial, commercial, and retail construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models using industry-standard tools and methodologies.Lead preconstruction estimating efforts, develop assumptions and clarifications, and create transparent bid packages for internal and external stakeholders.Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing and alignment with project scopes and schedules.Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and field teams to identify constructability issues, value engineering opportunities, and risk mitigation strategies.Develop and maintain estimate databases, unit cost libraries, and historical project data to improve estimate accuracy and consistency.Prepare and present estimate summaries, bid analyses, and recommendation reports for senior leadership and clients.Ensure estimates comply with contractual requirements, codes, and company policies, and support contract negotiation and scope reconciliation after award.Support schedule development and resource planning in coordination with the project team during preconstruction.Continuously improve estimating processes, templates, and tools; train and mentor junior estimators as needed.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.3+ years of estimating experience in construction with direct involvement in industrial, commercial, or retail projects; preconstruction experience strongly preferred.Proven proficiency in quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and estimate preparation; experience with BIM takeoffs an advantage.Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor productivity, and industry pricing databases (e.g., RSMeans).Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Sage Estimating, PlanSwift, Bluebeam) preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing bid narratives and presenting findings to stakeholders.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities; able to manage multiple bids and deadlines concurrently.Experience negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers, and managing confidential bid information.Professional certifications (e.g., AACE, CPE) or construction licensure are a plus.
