Laborer(Vehicle Maintenance)

Job TitleDAY AND NIGHT SHIFT AVAILABLEJob SummaryPrimary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: preventative maintenance, building maintenance and repairs, towing, and assisting the mechanics with the repair of all citywide equipment. This individual must be available for holidays and weekends and during emergencies. This individual may be needed to assist in other City Departments. Other duties as assigned.Examples Of DutiesThe list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed.Perform preventative maintenance and complete minor repairsCleans assigned work area and picks up tools and places them in appropriate cabinet/chestAssist with towing related activitiesMaintain detailed records of activities and completed work ordersRespond to after hours and emergency calls after normal working hours and on weekends and holidaysPerform other duties of a similar nature or levelTypical QualificationsMinimum requirements:Knowledge of:Procedures and methods related to area of assignmentBasic mechanical repairsTools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignmentSafety proceduresInventory principlesRecordkeeping principlesOccupational hazards and safe work practicesSkill in:Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignmentUsing a computer and related software applicationsAbility to:Drive various types of larger vehicles including pick up trucks and dump trucksOperate a variety of shop equipment and hand toolsPerform basic mathematical calculationsCommunicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work directionEducation and/or experience: High school diploma or GED high school diploma or equivalent.Certification/Licensure: Must have at the time of hire and be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.Supplemental InformationAdditional information: The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
