2nd Shift Supervisor Shift Time: 3:00pm-11:30pmThe 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities during an assigned shift, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are consistently met. This leadership role requires a hands-on approach in guiding team members, resolving issues in real-time, and using communication, presentation, systems thinking, and analytical skills to enhance overall shift performance. The Shift Supervisor also acts as the main point of contact for all operations on the floor when upper management is not present.Operational Oversight & SupervisionLead, coordinate, and monitor all shift activities to meet production schedules and quality standards.Supervise production staff, ensuring they follow standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and work instructions.Monitor machine performance, work orders, and material usage, resolving issues as they arise.Provide support with job setups, preventative maintenance, and process adjustments as needed.Communication & PresentationFacilitate clear, consistent communication between shifts and departments using shift handover reports, dashboards, and team briefings.Communicate production performance, goals, and expectations effectively to all shift personnel.Prepare and deliver updates to senior leadership regarding production status, employee issues, or operational challenges.Systems and DocumentationUtilize ERP or MES systems to track production metrics, log incidents, review work orders, and manage time reporting.Assist with system-based planning, scheduling, and job prioritization.Maintain detailed records related to production performance, employee attendance, quality concerns, and downtime incidents.Analytical & Problem-Solving ResponsibilitiesCollect and analyze production data to identify trends, root causes of inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve product or process issues swiftly.Support continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, Pareto Analysis)Team Leadership & DevelopmentSet and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly performance goals for individuals and teams.Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to employees to develop technical and soft skills.Document and escalate disciplinary issues in coordination with HR and upper management.Support onboarding of new hires and cross-training of existing employees.Skill SetCommunication - Engages clearly and respectfully with all levels of staff and management.Presentation - Shares updates and results in a professional, clear, and impactful way.System - Comfortable navigating and leveraging manufacturing systems and workflows.Analytics - Uses data to drive decisions and improve operational efficiency.ExposureHigh School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Technical Degree preferred.3+ years of manufacturing or production experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data and ideas clearly.Proven analytical skills, including ability to assess complex problems and implement effective solutions.Proficiency in using computer systems (ERP, MES, Excel, production software).Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams across shifts.Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and meet production deadlines.Knowledge of safety regulations, GMP, lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma is a plus.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is usually in an office within a manufacturing facility with low to moderate noise level.
