Special Ed/ExL Applied Teacher
SUMMARY OF POSITION:Provides instruction and intense intervention for students with unique needs within the special education setting. Provides modifications to curriculum to address the intellectual, social, pre-vocational and adaptive needs of students. Leads an educational program for students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self-worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each student's ability; establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Credential - Valid/active Indiana Elementary Teaching License with Mild Interventions and Intense Interventions Endorsements preferredExperience working with students with developmental delays and autism spectrum preferredEducation - Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirementsPersonal Qualities - Highly recommended from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacherUnderstanding of state and federal regulations and laws serving individuals with disabilities (i.e. Article 7, IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA, etc.)PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESProvide direct and/or indirect services through a variety of methods to assigned students according to the IEP or ISPParticipate in the case conference committee meeting as the student's special education teacherAs the Teacher of Record or Service, create IEPs including measurable goals, services, accommodations and all relevant areas to address unique student needsRegularly monitor and manage the implementation of students' IEP or Service PlansEnsures confidentiality and accessibility of the plan(s) to appropriate and approved stakeholdersInform appropriate and approved teachers and related services providers of their specific responsibilities related to the plan(s) and serves as a resource to all other personnel providing services to assigned studentsDirect instructional aides and paraprofessionals and coordinate their work for the purpose of providing an effective school program according to individual student needsComplete Progress Monitoring of IEP goals and provide to parents on a regular basisUtilize de-escalation strategies to prevent behaviors that could be harmful to self or othersBe a part of the crisis team for the classroom and building to support appropriate Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation PlanProvide learning experiences in accordance with the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculumdesigned by Duneland School CorporationMaintain awareness of state standards specified in state law, administrative regulations, or set by the Duneland School CorporationPlan, organize and deliver Specially Designed Instruction, differentiated lessons and interventions to meet diverse needs of students.Develop, modify, and implement IEP accommodations using a UDL mindset, ensuring that instructional materials (including digital formats) provide text-to-speech, visual scaffolding, and alternative assessment options.Establish and implement clear objectives for each lessonEngage students in meaningful activities to assure student mastery of contentApply knowledge of UDL guidelines to co-plan and co-teach with general educators, creating cooperative learning environments with differentiated objectives and tiered supports.Apply Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategiesMaintain accurate and complete records of student performanceCommunicate with building principal about special education issues and trendsConfer with parents and colleagues to address student academic and behavioral needsEstablish and implement classroom rules and procedures to provide an environment conducive to learningAdminister assessments as required by the state of Indiana and the corporationInteract with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflect the expectations of leadership within the school and corporationFollow all expectations described in IDEA, Article 7, the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement and employee handbookFollow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal and /or corporation leadershipMonitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.Hours: The regular teacher day is eight (8) hours except on those days that teachers are involved in a meeting or plan session called by an administrator or team leader or teachers having a student/parent conference. 185 days per year.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
