Salary: $54,921.71 Annually Location : St. Croix, VIJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 01054Department: T & D SubstationDivision: Electric OperationsOpening Date: 10/23/2024Job SummaryUnder general supervision, performs electrical work requiring a high level of skill in the inspection, repair, maintenance and installation of electric substations and switchyards equipment and machinery.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesInspect repairs, replaces and sets up electrical machinery and equipment.Tests, overhauls and repairs such equipment as electrical accessories, fans, transformers, vacuum, SF6, oil and air circuit breakers (high and low voltage), air conditioners, insulation and air heaters, motors, generators, exciters, circuit breakers, protective relays, load tap changers and voltage regulators, back-up battery system, grounding systems, underground power cables, communication cables and fiber cables.Performs work in the installation of new equipment, instruments, control devices and others.Operated all types of electrical test equipment, operate substation equipments, and repairs power tools; maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.Performs building electrical inspection and maintenance work such as installing conduits, install and repair receptacles, switches, breakers, wiring, replaces and installs light bulbs, defective light fixtures, conduit wiring, and surveillance cameras equipments. Paints equipment and structures as required.Assists other employees in carrying through work assignments as directed; performs work in accordance with safety rules, regulations and practices. Coordinate work with maintenance contractors and vendors.Performs periodic inspection, testing and maintenance of Electric Substations and switch yards, and fix and repair substation equipment, switchyard equipment and plant equipment to ensure that all electrical installations and equipment are in compliance with the NEC, NESC (National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code) and industrial standards. Prepare and submit written reports of inspections and work performed.Required Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThorough knowledge of the principles of electricity especially as applied to electric power generating plants and substationsThorough knowledge of the maintenance, testing and repair of a variety of electrical and electronic equipment and machinery in both gas and steam power plant, substations, and switchyardsThorough knowledge of the NEC (National Electric Code) and NESC (National Electric Safety Code), and building codesThorough knowledge of tools and equipment and their skilled use on the jobThorough knowledge of practical and efficient methods of electrical maintenance and repair workThorough knowledge of safe rigging and scaffolding practice, and the use of tackle, hoist and ladder used in the workAbility to read, interpret and work from elementary, one-line and control schematic drawings and specificationsAbility to troubleshoot electrical control problems and to effect repairs and modify system to be more effective in its operationsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons contacted during the course of the workEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma including or supplemented by courses in the electrical trades, and five years of experience in power plant or industrial electrical maintenance work.
