Job Description:POSITION TITLE: Head Coach - Men's/Women's Cross-CountryDEPARTMENT: Athletics and RecreationPRIMARY LOCATION: Bristol's Taunton CenterREPORTS TO: Director of Athletics and Recreation.POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, non-unit, non-benefitted position, not to exceed 18.5 hours per week.EXPECTED START DATE: August 2026 for the Fall 2026 seasonSALARY: $7,000.00 paid out over the seasonSTATEMENT OF DUTIES:The Head Coach - Cross-Country is responsible for administration of all phases of an NJCAA Division III Cross-Country program including recruiting quality student-athletes, organizing and training athletes for successful competition, monitoring and supporting the academic success of the student-athletes, and planning and conducting pre- and post-season conditioning programs. This is a professional head coaching position; therefore, all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the NJCAA, Region XXI, and Bristol Community College.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Recruitment:Meet designated roster goals established in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Recreation.Collaborate with the department's Athletics Recruiter to identify and guide prospective students through the enrollment process.Report information on prospective cross-country student-athlete interest to the Athletics Recruiter.Establish a comprehensive list of prospective cross-country student-athletes through attending local high school, club, and AAU cross-country events, as well as establishing relationships with area cross-country coaches.Contact prospective student-athletes about attending Bristol Community College.Delegate recruitment assignments to assistant coaches.Attend Bristol Community College family nights and other on-campus recruiting eventsAcademics:Collaborate with the department's Student-Athlete Advisor to ensure all cross-country student-athletes are meeting regularly with their advisor and utilizing academic initiatives.Motivate and provide direction and advice to prepare student-athletes in the classroomPromote academic success through a commitment to class attendance, academic achievement, and graduation.Communicate high academic standards within the cross-country program.Coaching:Organize, prepare, and conduct team practice sessions to train and prepare for competition.Direct, motivate, and advise student-athletes to prepare for competition.Establish individual and student-athlete goals.Establish and enforce team policies.Effectively communicate proper techniques, fundamentals, and team strategies.Utilize video programming to instruct on areas of practice and competition.Represent the College in a positive manner by demonstrating good sportsmanship and collegiality.Study the field and remain up to date on the latest trends of cross-country instruction.Use lessons in sport as a platform for overall student-development.Administrative:Hire and supervise Assistant Coach - Men's/Women's Cross-Country, as well as volunteer coaches; assigns specific coaching, recruiting and team activity duties.Develop relationships with four-year coaches and implement a plan to assist cross-country student-athletes in transferring.Demonstrate an understanding and adhere to NJCAA eligibility and compliance.Report facility issues to the Director of Athletics and Recreation in a timely manner.Submit uniform and equipment requests to the Director of Athletics and Recreation.Schedule cross-country non-region competition.Requirements:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associate's degree required.Experience playing and coaching intercollegiate or high school cross-country.Knowledge of recruitment, student-athlete development, and cross-country.Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.Valid driver's license.Ability to work nights and weekends.A commitment to embracing diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student-body.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree preferred.Experience recruiting student-athletes in a community college setting.A minimum of three years of experience coaching at the intercollegiate level.Strong ability to build relationships within our recruitment area.Ability to speak a language in addition to English.Additional Information:Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action:Bristol Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran or military status, genetic information, gender identity, or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, TitleVII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
