Position Title: Employment Status:Director of Marketing and Development Full - TimeInternal Title: Job Classification:Department Director S 16Department: Marketing Wage Type: ExemptAccountable to: Manager/Treasurer Date: February 2026Position Summary:The Director of Marketing and Development is responsible for managing and directing all aspects of It Is Written's Marketing and Development departments. Marketing functions include all activities related to marketing, advertising, and public relations initiatives to the general public, as well as participating in product and resource development and distribution. Development functions include all activities related to planning, organizing, and directing fundraising and capital campaigns for It Is Written. It is crucial that the Director of Marketing and Development supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions.Authority & Accountability:Authority as delegated by and accountable to the It Is Written President and Manager/Treasurer in accordance with It Is Written's policies and objectives.Essential Position Functions:Marketing Functions:Possess working knowledge of marketing best practices, trends in branding, and an understanding of a religious-specific market and its associated communication needs.Develop and implement short-term and long-term marketing plans to meet strategic goals and objectives.Oversee the planning, scripting, editing, and posting of social media marketing content.Oversee and direct the messaging of Impressions magazine and other periodicals.Develop marketing messages to be communicated externally via social media, website, email, and print to ensure messages are clear and current.Coordinate, schedule, and direct Ministry representation at annual camp-meetings, conventions, and other external events.Develop relationship and representation at Seventh-day Adventist colleges and universities.Write and coordinate press releases and announcements for Church, Conference, and Union, and Division periodicals.Lead in the evaluation and procurement of marketing and public relations materials, including giveaways.Collaborate with other Department Directors on advertising of programs and products.Work with Creative Services department to ensure brand consistency.Design and launch email marketing campaigns promoting the Ministry.Develop marketing communication campaigns.Development Functions:Possess working knowledge of development best practices, trends in non-profit, religious development, fundraising tools, and technology, including donor databases, email and online campaigns, and donor research.Develop and implement a short-term and long-term development plan to meet strategic goals and objectives.Collaborate with Planned Giving and Trust Services department on donor relations and fundraising initiatives.Responsible for planning and executing capital campaigns.Coordinate special events for fundraising opportunities.Develop and maintain donor recognition programs.Plan and coordinate annual Partnership fundraising events including venue contracting and management, .Ensure that development-associated content is correct, functional, and up-to-date in online media.Oversee the writing and design of a monthly direct-mail appeal letter and design targeted appeals as needed to specific segments.Develop and maintain positive relationships with donors through in person, telephone, and written communication.Manage prospect research and cultivation initiatives with a special emphasis on pursuing strategies to secure or increase giving from donors in multiple demographics.Develop strategies for existing donors to effectively move them through a meaningful cycle of giving, including implementing new fundraising models for small, medium, and major gifts.Manage gift processing, donor database maintenance, and financial reporting.Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities.General Functions:Perform overall supervision and coordination of the Marketing and Development departments:Supervise and manage all aspects of the department staff.Ensure departmental adherence to It Is Written's policies and procedures.Maintain a schedule of all department projects and monitor department functions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of projects.Establish annual goals, provide regular performance reviews and appropriate recognition, and support ongoing professional development opportunities.Create strategies to improve the department's efficiency and effectiveness.Manage and nurture relationships with vendors, contractors, Church entities, and other ministries.Represent It Is Written in the local community and be an active member of local organizations.Represent It Is Written at occasional conferences, events, and meetings, as needed.Work with Treasurer and Department Directors to determine event budgets and manage expenses to those budgets.Fulfill other related responsibilities and duties as assignedPosition Specifications:Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of duties:Education:A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required.A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, philanthropy, or related field is preferred.Experience:Minimum three (4) years of experience in marketing or professional fundraising. Experience in leading team members is required.Membership and Mission:Embrace the mission and values of It Is Written and be a member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.Skills, scope, and complexity of duties:Demonstrate a working knowledge of marketing and development best practices, the latest trends in technology, managing efficient and effective processes, and creative approaches to reaching audiences.Possess a knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suites software.Be proficient, or able to obtain proficiency, in the Raiser's Edge software.Possess creative and technical writing skills.Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.Have knowledge of, and experience in, fundraising techniques.Demonstrate solid leadership skills to coordinate, plan, and execute the position functions.Ability to exercise direction, independent judgment, make decisions, and assume responsibility.Possess the skills to motivate staff and build relationships with donors.Exhibit excellent organizational skills and follow through on tasks and goals.Ability to oversee and manage large and complex projects to completion and manage details while seeing the big picture.Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.Exhibit excellent personal relationship skills.Demonstrate servant leadership and exemplify a collaborative, decisive, motivating, and engaging communication style.Possess extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.Commitment to pursue training on a regular basis to stay updated with the most recent trends and best practices in the industry.Has a close relationship with Jesus Christ and sets a good example for others.Able to exhibit Christ-like behavior in daily tasks, collaborative projects, and under stress.Interpersonal Relationships:At It Is Written:PresidentManager/TreasurerDepartment DirectorsOffice StaffOutside of It Is Written:It Is Written customers, donors, vendors, guests, and volunteersPublic and private media outletsChurch members and leaders at all levels of the Seventh-day Adventist ChurchWorking Conditions:General working conditions of an office and in the field-must maintain continuous operation, availability, and efficiency of the office during normal office hours.Occasional moderate to high stress due to meeting critical deadlines.Physical requirements: requires standing, walking, time at a desk, reaching, climbing, and lifting (maximum of 50 lbs.)Travel flexibility to various conferences and It Is Written events with associated travel hazards.Specific Requirements:Salaried, 38 regular hours per week.Will require variable hours and weekend work.No special clothing or safety gear required.Business casual attire required.
