Counseling Intern

THE POSITION:Each Intern of VYFS:Works with integrity and respect toward one another, our donors, volunteers, and the diverse communities with whom we interactUnderstands the impact of institutional racism as a barrier to service, and strives to reduce barriers to service for those in needOffers a superior level of customer serviceProvides a welcoming environmentCommunicates and collaborates across the organizationGives, and should expect to receive, clear expectationsWorks with an eye toward innovation and intellectual contributionTakes personal responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of his/her own workPerforms their work to the highest ethical expectations of his/her professionSummary of responsibilities:Participate in weekly team meetings/consult, weekly supervision and monthly staff meetingsPerform duties related to working with clients identified as high risk, to identify needs and goals to improve clients quality of life for both behavioral and physical health issuesAssess client's current functional level and, in collaboration with the client, develops and monitors an Individual Service Plan and quality of careas well as at risk youth services plan when appropriateCollaborates with both medical and behavioral providers to ensure optimal care for clientsAvailable to consult by telephone or telehealth with clients for behavioral issues, and their providers to identify needs, set goals and implement action steps towards achieving goals. Support clients to help them improve their quality of life and ensure an integrated approach to address complex issuesProvides ongoing coordination of case management services, assessment, treatment planning, resource identification and development, environmental assistance, advocacy, collateral supports and clinical services as appropriate to assigned caseloadCreate and support a trauma-informed, safe, trusting healing environment that respects the perspectives and experiences of the individuals, families, staff and communities we serve with safety and healingHold client confidentiality as a high value, understand and follow all applicable rules of confidentiality, including HIPPA, and subsequent local and national legislation protecting client privacy, seek additional training and clarification when neededMaintain caseload and paperwork expectations, completing required documentation no later than 10 days following client interactionsCompletes treatment plan within 30 days of intake dateCompletes At Risk Youth Service plan within 30 days of intakeCompletes therapist disclosure at first individual sessionCreates safety plan and referrals to crisis connections when Suicidal ideation, self harm or homicidal ideation is present. Informs supervisor, assistant director, or clinical director within 24 hours when awareUnderstands duty to warn and makes CPS or APS when warranted as well as informs supervisor within 24 hours of callREQUIREMENTS:Education, Experience, and Certification:Experience with child and family strongly preferredFluent in Spanish in a clinical context, strongly preferredIn a graduate program working towards Master's Degree in social services related field (counseling, social work, child, couple family therapy, and case management skills).Experience working with seriously and persistently mentally ill adult populationsAdditional certification requirements: Work towards one or more of: Infant mental health specialist, Child mental health specialist, Geriatric mental health, Developmentally delayed mental health specialistValid Washington States driver's license- question about this? How come?Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Delivers such services with respect, tact and cultural awareness.Training and expertise, or a demonstrated willingness to receive training and develop expertise in at least one Evidence-Based Practice modality of intervention appropriate for delivering therapy to children, youth, adults and families.Manages the stress of serving difficult/agitated consumers in a safe and dignified manner as dictated by facility policies and procedures.Works cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team approach, according respect to others based on knowledge and experience as well as discipline.Computer literacy, ability to learn new technology and adapt to change
