Reclamation Operator

Functions:In accordance with the established policies and practices, performs operational duties by organizing and directing placement of recyclable and non-recyclable solid waste material for final disposal; interfaces with the public and determine acceptability of materials brought to City's Recycling Center. Under guidance, collects reusable items or waste materials from center visitors, such as lumber, paper, rags, fiber, yarn, rubber, alcohol and soft drink bottles and scrap metal, and places them in scrap gondolas, barrels, or other containers, as appropriate.Responsibilities and Duties:Determines acceptability of solid waste material as it is delivered to center according to rules and regulations.Greets customers and directs them as to proper disposal, answers their questions, and records charges for billing.Maintains records for billing, provides monthly reports, and assists in reconciliation or tracking down issues.Salvages recyclable materials and disposes of waste by loading onto vehicle.Ensures proper placement of recyclable material, household solid waste.Inspects materials and sorts items or materials into piles or places in bins or barrels according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics.Operates house-hold waste compactor when required.Keeps area of responsibility clean.Maintains courteous attitude toward customers.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Training, Education and Experience Required:Twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.High school diploma or equivalent required.Valid driver's licensePreferred Training, Education and Experience:Minimum of two years customer service.Spanish speaking/translation preferred.Physical Requirements:The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
