Maintenance Technician (K-12)
Job Description: Maintenance Technician (K-12 School) Position Overview: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the physical environment of a K-12 school, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-functioning facility. The role involves performing routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and responding to urgent maintenance issues to support the daily operations of the school.
Perform routine maintenance tasks for two buildings, including plumbing, electrical work, HVAC systems, carpentry, and painting
Troubleshoot and repair equipment and facility-related issues such as lighting, doors, furniture, fence, gates, and other fixtures.
Conduct routine inspections of school facilities to identify and address maintenance needs.
Maintain and service heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure a comfortable environment for students and staff.
Handle deliveries and maintain inventories of supplies and materials.
Oversee safety compliance by ensuring all fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency systems are functioning correctly.
Assist with set-up and tear-down for school events, assemblies, and other activities as needed.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and administration.
Ensure that the school grounds, including parking lots, playgrounds, and athletic fields, are well-maintained and safe.
Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or maintenance projects.
Maintain an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are stored securely and accessible when needed.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, school policies, and local building codes
Assist in snow removal, lawn care, and other seasonal maintenance duties
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; vocational training in related fields (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) is preferred.
Proven experience as a maintenance technician or similar role.
Knowledge of general building maintenance procedures, systems, and techniques.
Ability to work independently, lift 50 plus pounds, able to climb ladders, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good communication skills
Valid driver’s license required; certifications in specific maintenance fields (e.g., HVAC) are a plus
Work Environment:
Full-time position, typically during school hours, with occasional after-hours or weekend work required for emergencies or special events.
Work involves both indoor and outdoor maintenance in varying weather conditions.
