Summary: The Lead Certified Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, correct assembly, and sterile processing of all instrumentation used at the surgery center. Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of sterile supplies for the center.
Essential Responsibilities will include the following, and other duties may be assigned.
Sterilization Duties:
Adheres to center sterilization and infection control standards for cleaning and sterilizing contaminated items or supplies.
Ensures instruments and surgical trays are clean, sterile, assembled, and ready prior to procedures.
Ensures the availability of adequate levels of sterile instruments and supplies meet the demands of the surgery schedule.
Checks sterile items for substitution needs by replacing damaged, expired, or missing instruments.
Maintains inventory by rotating, sorting, wrapping, packaging, and appropriately labeling instruments and supplies.
Inserts sterilization indicators inside all packages and report any lost instruments to appropriate staff.
Monitors autoclaves for proper temperatures and ensures repair orders are reported to supervisors or representatives responsible for escalated maintenance.
Maintenance Duties:
Ensures instrument maintenance by proactively inspecting instrumentation for defects and/or failures to meet company standards.
Ensures proper instrumentation circulation by coordinating repairs, sharpening, and removing instrumentation that requires repair services.
Lubricates instruments as needed.
Maintains accurate records for repaired or maintained instruments.
Other Duties:
Assists operating room personnel by ensuring operating rooms are clean, patients are transported, and necessary case information is accurately transcribed.
Assists with surgical preps and patient positioning.
Unpacks, stocks, and re-stocks operating room shelves with supplies needed to assist with procedural efficiency.
Participates as a member of the team to promote a positive working environment, and assist other technicians when requested or necessary.
Identifies and provides suggestions on how to help develop departmental policies and procedures concerning patient care, patient flow, and operational efficiency.

Education:
Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
· Experience:
o Required: Minimum of 5 years related experience in assembly and sterilization of surgical instrumentation; or Completion of formal Sterile Processing Technician training; or, Certification from a program that includes aseptic technique and infection control training.
Licensure and Certification:
Certification from the Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD Technician Certification).
Required: Basic Life Support Certification – BLS.
