Director of Electrical Engineering
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, coaching and best-practice processes to drive and develop technical competencies and optimal performance of the team and each individual team member.
Contribute to development activities across a span of functional areas.
Contribute to the primary product development work assignments using strong technical skills in order to produce quality output on budget and on schedule.
Interface with marketing and internal/external customers for project/product requirement generation.
Additional Responsibilities:
Accountable to sustain and manage continuous improvement to the overall electrical engineering development process. Ensures adherence to the development process including requirements planning, schedule estimates, concept reviews, design reviews, verification and validation test plans.
Identifies requirements for technical talent and manages the recruitment of new employees. Assembles high performance teams that deliver quality work and meets the required schedules.
Monitors progress of projects, confers with program and project engineers, and reviews reports to see that development is progressing according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines. Recommends corrective action as required.
Manages the electrical systems interface to the design services group and to offshore teams to deliver quality designs and on-time performance.
Communicates to customers and cross-functional groups the status of various development projects. Ensures that products and projects are delivered to meet customer requirements and specifications.
Holds electrical systems engineers accountable to quality goals, schedules, development process and system performance. The role requires close day-to-day interaction with both project managers and key customers to manage the complete electrical system lifecycle for new and legacy products. Strong interpersonal skills are mandatory, together with a drive to succeed.
Manages the budget and annual salary plan for the electrical systems engineering group. Facilitates the annual performance review process for the electrical development function.
Recommends training programs to continuously improve the skill level of the electrical systems function.
