ONEIDA COUNTY GOVERNMENT NOTICE OF VACANCY DEPARTMENT: Water Quality and Water Pollution Control CIVIL SERVICE TITLE: Laboratory Technician (Wastewater Treatment) (NYHELP Program) CLASSIFICATION TYPE: Non-Competitive SALARY (GRADE): $54,178 (24B) Plus Excellent Benefits APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 31, 2026 APPLY ONLINE*: https://oneida-portal.mycivilservice.com/post/jobopps DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for physical, chemical, bacteriological and microscopic examination, and analysis of raw and treated wastewater and sludge. The incumbent is responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures required for control of the treatment process and necessary stream or industrial waste surveys. The work is performed under supervision of Water Resources Chemist, with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgement in carrying out details of the work. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. The incumbent performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application. Either: (A) Possession of Associate’s Degree in laboratory technology, engineering, civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical, biological or physical sciences or a closely related field; OR (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND two (2) years of technical experience in an industrial, medical, pharmaceutical, or public laboratory. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment. License must remain valid throughout appointment. NOTES: 1. Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
