The position will involve working on document-heavy matters requiring strong analytical thinking, organization, and the ability to reconstruct financial activity from incomplete or complex records.The ideal candidate is experienced in tax controversy support, understands accounting systems and financial statements deeply, and can work independently while collaborating with attorneys and operations teams on high-level client matters.This role is expected to evolve into a long-term position as the firm continues growing its IRS audit and controversy practice.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with IRS audit and audit reconsideration matters.Perform cross-entity financial reconciliation and flow-of-funds analysis.Reconstruct books and records across multiple related entities.Analyze bank deposits, general ledgers, profit & loss statements, and balance sheets.Organize and reconcile source documentation for audit defense purposes.Assist with substantiation of business expenses and income reporting.Review and analyze IRS audit records and supporting documentation.Prepare audit support workpapers and accounting schedules.Coordinate with attorneys and internal operations teams on complex tax matters.Work within large-scale document review and financial reconstruction projects.Must-Have QualificationsPrior experience supporting IRS audits, audit reconsideration matters, or tax controversy projects.Strong bookkeeping and accounting systems knowledge.Advanced QuickBooks experience.Ability to reconcile complex financial activity across multiple related entities.Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting documentation.Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability.Ability to work independently in complex, document-heavy environments.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Nice-to-Have QualificationsExperience with forensic accounting or litigation support.Prior exposure to IRS Revenue Agent examinations.Experience supporting tax attorneys, CPAs, or Enrolled Agents in controversy matters.Understanding of S-Corps, Schedule C entities, and pass-through taxation.Experience with large-scale records reconstruction projects.Familiarity with audit workpapers and indirect methods of income reconstruction.
