Area Coordinator

Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree strongly preferred. Previous residence life or housing experience. Previous student staff supervision experience. Thorough knowledge of student development, student leadership and community development theories. Strong oral and written communication and critical thinking skills. Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world. Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or related field. Previous experience working with living-learning communities, student staff training, and/or departmental marketingDuties And ResponsibilitiesCommunity ResponsibilitiesLead and develop a residential community of approximately 550 students living in 1-2 residence hallsFocus on residential student engagement and relationship developmentSupervise, develop, and evaluate 8-15 RAs, including 1-2 Senior RAsOversee the planning and implementation of all programming initiatives within the residential areaHear student conduct cases and educate students within the restorative justice processCollaborate with campus partners to intervene with and support students of concern and students at-riskMediate elevated conflicts among residentsReestablish and advise the area-wide student leadership organization grounded in divisional goalsAdvise the redeveloped area student leadership organizationServe in the on-call duty rotation and support after-hours processes that ensure student safetyManage budget lines for community building, programming, and staff developmentDepartmental ResponsibilitiesSupport housing operations functions, including hall opening and closing, occupancy management, access control, follow-up on facilities and housekeeping concerns, and consistent oversight of residence hall facility needsAssume responsibility for summer projects and assignments, which may include summer housing, summer camps, and conferences supportAssist with planning and executing RA recruitment, selection, and training processesAssist with planning and executing office, divisional, and institutional commitments as assignedPerform occasional evening and weekend responsibilitiesOther duties as assigned
