Estimator (Structural & Miscellaneous Steel)
Position: Estimator (Structural & Miscellaneous Steel)
Primary Purpose: The Estimator (Structural & Miscellaneous Steel) is responsible for providing a complete estimate for the industrial steel trade on bids once assigned a project by the CEO. The Estimator must be a self-starter with the ability to assemble trade estimates with moderate supervision. The Estimator must be a flexible and adaptable team-player with good communication skills. Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment with variable working hours.
Essential Duties:
Review all construction documents including Instructions to bidders and scope of work
Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
Distribute plans, specifications and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company website and/or email
Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as required which may result in travel time on occasion
Thoroughly review all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
Review in detail assigned subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications
Review for completeness required equipment rentals for their trade scope of work
Upon award of projects, assist in procurement of materials and equipment as required
Minimum Experience And Qualifications:
Required:
Knowledge and efficiency in computer/network based estimating software
1+ years experience Estimating/Pre-Construction
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Fabsuite/Tekla
Ability to follow and understand directions and work closely with Project Managers and the CEO
Good technical writing and verbal communication skills
A General understanding of the AWS D1.1 welding code and AISC Steel Construction.
Understanding and capable of taking off completely industrial steel systems
Understanding means and methods of construction for the steel trades including shop fabrication
Time management skills and organizational skills
Ability to meet critical deadlines
Other duties as assigned
Working knowledge in Fab-Suite and Blue Beam preferred
Follow up with GC's to determine post-bid contract award status
Ability to use CAD programs
Preferred:
2+ years of experience in structural steel estimating/pre-construction.
Minimum of 5 year of experience working in construction field in a similar or related position.
