We also have developed a range of by-products for specialized applications across industry, construction and agriculture, which utilize Harsco’s expertise in mineral materials.Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of large mobile equipment used to support steel‑mill operations. This role plays a critical part in material movement, production support, and site safety. Operators work in a demanding industrial environment where strict safety compliance and operational precision are essential.Key ResponsibilitiesSafely operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, locomotives, material handlers, haul trucks, and other support equipmentSupport steel‑mill operations through material handling activities, including slag, scrap metal, raw materials, and finished by‑productsPerform pre‑shift and post‑shift equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concernsOperate equipment in compliance with company policies, site procedures, and all applicable safety regulationsMaintain awareness of surroundings while working in active mill areas with moving equipment, rail traffic, and high‑temperature processesCommunicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and maintenance personnelMaintain clean, organized work areas and equipment cabsComplete required production, inspection, and equipment operation documentationParticipate in safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and ongoing training programsAssist with basic equipment care and minor operational adjustments as trainedQualificationsRequired QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED preferredMinimum 1–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial, steel‑mill, mining, construction, or related environmentDemonstrated ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficientlyStrong commitment to safety and compliance with workplace policiesAbility to understand and follow written and verbal instructionsWillingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as requiredValid driver’s license; additional equipment certifications preferredPhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to work outdoors in all weather conditionsAbility to climb onto and off equipment, work at heights, and sit for extended periodsTolerance for heat, noise, dust, vibration, and industrial operating conditionsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodationPreferred QualificationsExperience working within active steel‑mill or industrial processing environmentsFamiliarity with slag handling, materials logistics, or rail‑based operationsEquipment certifications or documented trainingBasic mechanical knowledge for identifying operational issuesAdditional Information“We offer competitive benefits, including health insurance, life insurance and disability plans, as well as a 401k with company matching.Harsco is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
