Guided by our values of safety, loyalty, integrity and respect, we are committed to delivering meaningful value for shareholders, customers, employees and the communities where we operate.The OpportunityThe Quality Engineer is an hourly role reporting to the Quality Manager in a manufacturing environment, working closely with department leadership, quality technicians, plant employees, and customer service while adhering to all safety and compliance policies. This role supports the development and execution of robust quality audit systems, assists with SQF certifications and audits, and leads continuous improvement efforts focused on enhancing quality and reducing waste. It is a developmental position designed to prepare the individual for future leadership opportunities.How You Will Impact Smurfit WestrockSeek improvement opportunities through system, process, and product audits.Drive Operations Excellence (OpEx) activities as project/or process lead and identify and develop teams using leadership competencies and training.Improve the quality of the process using data collected from the operations. Apply problem-solving techniques and develop quality standards.Liaison between internal and external customers and suppliers for compliance and complaint resolution.Write procedures that include selecting and applying correct measuring tools, identifying sampling requirements and statistical measures.Lead projects for improving product quality and productivity, using cost utilizing tools such as Six Sigma, statistical process control, value analysis, FMEA, quality at the source and lean principles.Lead problem solving, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for process related concerns using statistical tools.Evaluate material and processes with the goal of improving, optimizing, managing, and developing Quality Control documentation and standard work instructions.Training Quality Technicians.Other duties as assigned to meet business requirements.What You Need To SucceedBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.2-4 years of experience in quality and/or manufacturing.Detailed individual with keen focus on accuracy.Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to write detailed audit reports and project summaries.Strong organizational skills; multi-tasking a must.Strong computer skills (Microsoft applications).
