Job Description
Position SummaryThe Family Therapist provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and families served under the Fairfax–Falls Church Children's Services Act (CSA). The Family Therapist delivers trauma-informed, family-centered, and evidence-based interventions aimed at strengthening family functioning, improving child safety and stability, and reducing the need for out-of-home placement. Services are provided in community-based settings including client homes, schools, and other approved locations in accordance with CSA System of Care Practice Standards.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical & Therapeutic Services-Provide family-focused therapy, as well as individual and group counseling as clinically appropriate.-Conduct comprehensive family and psychosocial assessments to identify strengths, needs, and risk factors.-Develop, implement, and update treatment plans aligned with CSA Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), IEPs (when applicable), court orders, and agency referrals.-Utilize evidence-based and evidence-informed family therapy models (e.g., Family Systems Therapy, CBT, TF-CBT, Structural or Strategic Family Therapy).-Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning services.Documentation & Compliance-Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.-Submit required CSA reports in accordance with Fairfax–Falls Church CSA timelines and standards.-Participate in utilization reviews, audits, and quality assurance activities.Collaboration & Care Coordination-Collaborate with CSA case managers, Family Resource Teams, schools, courts, and other child-serving agencies.-Participate in team-based planning meetings, family partnership meetings, and multidisciplinary case reviews.-Communicate clinical progress and recommendations while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and CSA requirements.Professional Practice-Practice within the scope of Virginia licensure or registration and in accordance with ethical standards.-Participate in clinical supervision, peer consultation, and professional development.-Apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered care principles.Required QualificationsOne of the following:-Licensed mental health professional (LCSW, LPC, LMFT), ORSupervisee in Social Work (SISW), QMHP, or QMHP-T registered in Virginia and working under supervision-Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field.-Experience providing therapy or counseling services to children and families.-Knowledge of family systems, trauma-informed care, and community-based service delivery.-Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.Preferred Qualifications-Prior experience providing CSA-funded services or working within child-serving systems.-Experience with in-home or community-based therapy models.-Training or certification in evidence-based practices such as TF-CBT, CBT, MI, PCIT, FFT, or other family-focused models.-Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.Work Environment & Physical Requirements-Services are delivered in client homes, schools, and community settings.-Position requires travel throughout Fairfax County and surrounding areas.-Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform routine clinical and administrative duties.We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
