Theatrical Wardrobe Stitcher - Ship-Based Productions and ExperiencesPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced theatrical wardrobe stitcher to join our shipboard entertainment team for short-term costume maintenance and alteration projects. This unique position combines traditional theatrical costuming skills with the demands of maritime entertainment productions.Key ResponsibilitiesCostume Maintenance & AlterationsPerform quick alterations and adjustments to pre-existing costumes to fit current cast membersExecute emergency repairs on performance costumes with minimal downtimeMaintain costume integrity while working within tight turnaround schedulesAssess garment condition and recommend maintenance prioritiesTechnical Skills RequiredHand and machine stitching of various fabric types including stretch fabrics, sequined materials, and specialty theatrical textilesHemming, taking in/letting out seams, and adjusting costume proportionsInstalling and replacing zippers, snaps, hooks, and other closuresBasic pattern adjustment for fit modificationsSpot cleaning and minor fabric restorationMaritime-Specific RequirementsWork efficiently in compact, shipboard workspace conditionsAdapt to ship movement and limited storage while maintaining work qualityCollaborate with limited crew in fast-paced production environmentManage portable sewing equipment as well as industrial sewing machines and mobile workstation setupQualificationsEssential RequirementsMinimum 5 years' experience in theatrical costume construction or professional tailoringProficiency with industrial sewing machines and sergersStrong hand-sewing skills for delicate and specialty fabricsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionExperience working under tight deadlines in live performance environmentsPreferred QualificationsPrevious cruise ship or touring production experienceKnowledge of costume maintenance for dance and high-movement performances as well as haute-couture fabricsExperience with stretch fabrics and performance wearExperience with beaded fabrics, and haute couture fabricsExperience with haute couture and tailoring techniquesExperience with millinery techniquesBasic embellishment and beadwork repair skillsFamiliarity with steamers and professional garment care equipmentPhysical RequirementsAbility to work in confined spaces for extended periodsManual dexterity for detailed needleworkComfortable working on moving vesselAbility to lift and maneuver costume pieces up to 15 poundsExtended periods of sitting and close-detail workContract DetailsDuration: Short-term contracts typically 2-4 weeks depending on production scheduleBenefitsAll meals and accommodation provided during contract periodTransportation to/from embarkation portsOpportunity for contract extensions based on performance and availabilityApplication RequirementsCVPortfolio of recent costume work (photos or videos)References from previous theatrical or fashion industry employersValid passport during the duration of assignment, and any necessary VisaWorking EnvironmentThis position operates in a unique maritime theatrical setting where adaptability and efficiency are paramount.
