CPU Performance Engineer
Overview
Join AMD's Client and Graphics SOC Performance Team in Markham to advance processor performance analysis and optimization. You will model and evaluate architectural features across PC and Gaming workloads, develop tooling for data collection, and support post-silicon tuning. Your collaboration with architects, software teams, and verification engineers will drive impactful improvements. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge SoC design and performance workflows in a global, cross-site setting.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimize leading-edge processors with IP and SOC architectsCharacterize workloads and project performance while debugging issuesRun simulations and analyze results to assess architectural featuresAnalyze competitive platforms to identify improvement areasEnhance and maintain application tracing techniquesDevelop and maintain data collection and analysis toolsPerform post-silicon debug/tuning to optimize processor performanceCollaborate with microprocessor architects, ISA owners, software optimizers, compiler team, logic designers, and verification engineers to resolve performance issues
Key requirementsExperience with computer architecture, system simulation, and performance evaluationExperience analyzing system bottlenecks and optimizing computing systems for performanceStrong experience with computing software including operating systems, hypervisors, compilers, drivers, and workloadsAdept at mathematical and statistical modelingDetailed microarchitecture knowledge of CPU, GPU, NPU, Video Processors, and/or DRAM controllersProficient in C/C++ programming and software engineering conceptsTeam collaboration and cross-site communicationStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesWillingness to learn and take on challenging problemsPerformance modeling and workload characterizationPerformance simulations and data analysisApplication tracing techniques
