Systems Engineer

Overview MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Systems Engineer to join a specialized team providing core engineering, maintenance, and security services for Nuclear Command and Control (NC2) and associated secure communication frameworks in Fort Meade, MD. Responsibilities Analyzes user requirements, operational concepts, and high-level architectures to develop system specifications. Leads engineering design, development, and modernization based on system requirements. Guides users on requirements formulation, alternative approaches, and feasibility studies. Provides technical leadership to integrate operational requirements, network design, and technology. Integrates new plans, designs, and cryptographic systems into ongoing mission operations. Develops system architecture and design documentation (e.g., Systems Engineering, Test, and Software Code Build Plans, and Interface Control Documents) per DoD standards. Manages interface definitions, designs, and configuration changes across stakeholders throughout the system life cycle. Ensures production systems remain compatible with defined enterprise architectures, multi-platform networks, and secure mission infrastructure frameworks. Allocates system and functional requirements across hardware, software (UNIX/Windows platforms), facility, and personnel components. Supports the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-availability IT and cryptographic systems. Develops requirements for Information Assurance Services (confidentiality, integrity, and availability pillars), basic security mechanisms (authentication, authorization, and accountability), and security technologies (vulnerability scanning, defensive measures, cryptography, hashing, and key management). Directs the engineering, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems—including requirements elicitation, system reviews, ConOps development, and end-to-end flow analysis. Establishes processes to proactively manage requirements changes, assess impacts, gain stakeholder buy-in, and ensure source traceability. Evaluates program risks, determining probability and consequences of failure per the approved risk management and incident mitigation plan. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; 5 years of additional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. Fourteen (14) years of experience as a Systems Engineer in programs of similar scope, type, and complexity. Clearance Requirements Current/Active TS/SCI with Polygraph. Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Compensation The projected compensation range for this position is $141,500.00–$236,000.00. Salary may be influenced by contract wage determination, work experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, education, and Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
