Assistant Pastry Chef

Job Title: Assistant Pastry Chef Location:  Sarima CafeReports to: Head Pastry Chef / Executive ChefJob Type: Full-time / Part-time Position Overview: We are looking for a passionate and skilled Assistant Pastry Chef to join our kitchen team. As the Assistant Pastry Chef, you will assist the Head Pastry Chef in preparing and producing a wide range of baked goods, desserts, and pastries. You will be responsible for helping to maintain a high standard of quality, consistency, and presentation in all pastry items. Key Responsibilities: Assist in Pastry Preparation: Help in the preparation and production of a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods, including cakes, tarts, cookies, croissants, and other pastries. Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure that the pastry kitchen is always clean, organized, and sanitized according to food safety regulations. Help maintain cleanliness of equipment and utensils. Recipe Execution: Follow detailed recipes and guidelines to ensure consistency in the quality of pastries and desserts. Assist with recipe development and testing. Inventory Management: Assist with inventory tracking, including ordering and receiving supplies. Help ensure proper storage of ingredients and minimize waste. Baking & Decoration: Participate in the baking process and help with the decoration of cakes, pastries, and other baked goods, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing final product. Quality Control: Ensure the quality, taste, and presentation of all baked items meet the establishment’s high standards. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members in the kitchen, including chefs, line cooks, and front-of-house staff, to ensure smooth operations and effective communication. Adhere to Safety & Hygiene Standards: Follow all health and safety regulations, including safe handling of equipment, temperature control, and proper sanitation. Assist with Menu Planning: Collaborate with the Head Pastry Chef on new menu items, seasonal offerings, and daily specials. Requirements: Experience: Prior experience in a pastry kitchen or culinary school training is preferred, but not required. A genuine passion for pastry and baking is essential. Skills: Knowledge of pastry techniques and baking methods. Ability to work with a variety of pastry tools and kitchen equipment. Strong attention to detail, particularly in presentation and consistency. Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely.Ability to wash dishes as needed. Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and working in a fast-paced environment. Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Creativity: An artistic touch to help with the decoration and presentation of desserts. Preferred Qualifications: Culinary degree or certificate in Pastry Arts (or equivalent experience) Previous experience working in a high-volume kitchen or pastry department Familiarity with seasonal ingredients and pastry trends Working Conditions: Working in a professional kitchen environment, with exposure to high temperatures and potentially loud sounds. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
