Prototype Assembly Technician (Optical)
Job Title: Prototype Assembly TechnicianLocation: Onsite – Redmond, WADuration: 12 months (Contract)We are seeking a Prototype Assembly Technician with strong hands‑on experience in optical system assembly and custom tool operation. This role supports R&D prototype builds, requiring precision assembly, active alignment of optical modules, and close work with mechanical and electrical components. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, self‑driven, and comfortable working in an ambiguous, fast‑moving lab environment.Minimum Qualifications (Must‑Have)Mechanical aptitude with hands‑on assembly experience5+ years of experience in a relevant technical or R&D environmentBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics, or related fieldExperience reading and interpreting mechanical & electrical drawings/modelsExperience with rapid prototyping and multi‑disciplinary assembly workFamiliarity with laser safetyExperience with calibration (camera‑based sensor systems preferred)Strong written documentation skills (SOPs, assembly & test reports)Preferred Qualifications (Nice‑to‑Have)Cleanroom procedures and equipment experienceOptical metrology experiencePrior experience with AR/VR or optical consumer productsFamiliarity with Siemens NXVendor interaction experience (tools, processes, materials)Basic programming exposure (Python or C++)Responsibilities:Lamination and processing of optical assemblies for prototypesHands‑on active alignment of optical modules for AR devicesPrecision hand assembly and part processingMechanical and electrical rework of prototype componentsOperate custom calibration and assembly equipmentSupport optical, mechanical, and electrical testing activitiesAuthor clear documentation, SOPs, and assembly/test reportsMaintain high standards of organization, cleanliness, and lab safety
